Issue not limited to CentOS. I too am experiencing the same issue on my Debian Etch laptop, however my Debian Etch Desktop is uneffected.

I have come to a conclusion that a package on the host system is causing this strange issue, previously my laptop ran VirtualBox 2.1.0 with no issues, after upgrading to 2.1.4, I am unable to access any Samba servers on my local network. Although, my Desktop which was recently upgraded from VirtualBox 2.1.2 to VirtualBox 2.1.4 seems uneffected by this issue. I am still investigating the issue to see what could be causing the problem, my laptop does have many more packages installed specific for laptop use, mainly my wireless packages.

I will soon upgrade my systems to Debian Lenny after preforming software compatibility tests within VirtualBox, I do hope this issue is isolated to the laptop specific packages in Debian Etch. For all I know, it may not even be a wireless package, but some other package which is causing the conflict.

When I find time, I do a `diff` of both my package lists from my laptop and my desktop and add/remove the differences to make both my laptop and desktop the same. I will post my results on here as well as on the ticket to assist the developers in locating the conflict.

I run no firewalls on either my laptop or desktop, as they are always behind my OpenBSD gateway/router running on a Sun Sparc64.
