I am attempting to install Granular Linux as a guest on a vista host.
All has gone to plan up to the stage that I have Granular running, guest additions installed and Granular running just fine.
I have set up various shared Folders in the Virtual Machine selection box,
C:/ ; D/ ; E:/ ; F:/ etc., and created a share folder in Granular,(/mnt/share) confirmed by entering /mnt/share within Granular.
However I am having, immense, problems with the Mount procedure as quoted in the manual, e.g., mount -t vboxsf [-o OPTIONS] sharename mountpoint.
When I enter what I think this translates to in my case I get a screenful of messages to the effect that I cocked it up.
Could anyone clarify what the correct syntax should be in this case please?
Also once correctly mounted, as I hope and pray, will the shares be permanently available as they would be going the other way around on a Linux Host/Windows guest?
Thanks in advance
Tony Cook

Tony, you need Guest Additions successfully installed to use vboxsf. Failing that you can fall back to using NTFS file shares and samba client (smb) connections to your host.
If you have then try a mount.vboxsf --help or use mount.vboxsf and mount -t vboxsf to find some of the many posts on this.

Re: Shared Folders - Linux Guest Vista Host
As I said in the original post I had got as far as installing VBoxExtra's and the vbfs filing system. My difficulty lay in trying to follow the somewhat vague and misleading explanation in the manual as to the syntax required to mount the nominated shares.
Fortunately I picked up a useful hint on the Granular forum and am now happily running Linux on my Vista host.
I stand by my original point though that the manual at this point is pure geek and well beyond easy understanding by a newcomer. Therefore I would humbly suggest that a translation to everyday English would be in order.
Best regards

Tony, I agree that the user guide is more of a techie guide and not very (non-IT literate) user friendly. I have lobbed on this quite a lot but this has pretty much fallen on deaf ears so far. As to help and documentation on the mount parameters, as I said the mount.vboxsf --help screen is the best that I've come across.
