How Can I emulate vmnet1 device with a tap device

Hello,

I would like to setup a tap device with same functionality
that of VMwares vmnet1 and use it for emulating a LAN
of VMs and Host. Can somebody help in this regard.

I have tested vmnet1 device by attaching it to Virtual box's
host interface and it functions to satisfy my needs.

If not possible let me know why.
