FATAL ERROR: Attribute 'version' has a value, '1.3-linux',..

Post by ontherun »

My host OS is SUSE 10.3 and I have been happily running VirtualBox on it for at least 6 months. I have just accepted an update via Yast and now when I start VirtualBox, I receive the error shown below.

Thanks for any assistance that can be offered.
Darren.

Problem solved more through good luck than good management.

First of all I used the command:

"VBoxManage clonevdi /home/darren/.VirtualBox/VDI/xp.vdi /home/darren/xp_Backup.vdi"

This backed up my XP guest.

I then went to the VirtualBox site and downloaded the latest 2.1.2 RPM for SUSE. Right click and selected to install with Yast. After installing I started it without issues. There wasn't even a need to backup the .vdi file as VirtualBox opened my previous XP guest and all snapshots without a problem.

I know this doesn't answer what happened originally but hopefully what I did may help anyone with the same problem.

All the best.
Darren.

It's usually caused if you want to run a newer VM config in an older VB version. E.g., VMs created in 2.1.x won't run on 2.0.x.
