Can't access directories on linux host from win 7 guest

Post by edszr »

Hi All,

I'm on a fedora 8 machine and I'm running win 7 as a guest. When I try to map a network drive from win 7 to the linux machine, it tells me there's no such folder. But I know the folder is there, because my win xp guest connects just fine. Even if I try to connect to \\vboxsvr I get a message that it doesn't exist. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

thanks,
Ed

No, how should we know anything?

Post your _exact_ approach, Details, Guest Configuration, messages word by word.

Sorry, I thought I had given enough info.

Here's how my guest is configured:

Here's what I see when I try to map a folder on my Linux host:

The folder I'm trying to point to does exist and is shared. I also tried turning off the windows firewall and uninstalling then reinstalling the vbox guest additions...but I'm seeing the same behavior.

Is there any other info I need to provide for help figuring out why I can't map a network drive from my win7 guest to my linux host?

thanks.

This will trigger a 'duh' from your side. Did you actually install the Guest Additions? Without it, you won't have access to them.

No "duhs" coming from me...I believe in civil discourse :) I did install the Guest Additions, but I had to uninstall and re-install them a couple of times before I was able to see my linux directories.....good news is it's working now!

I have this issue. So basically your solution is to keep reinstalling guest additions till it works?

basically, yes. I un-installed and re-installed guest additions about 3 times...then suddenly, it worked.

hmmm wierd

well I won't worry about it in order to access files on my fedora host on another windows xp machine I have SAMBA set up anyway, I will just connect to my SAMBA share... or failing that just use DokanSSHFS.
