Make tape drive available to Windows guest

Post by jeucken »

Hi,

I'm trying to make my ancient IDE DI-30 Onstream tape drive available to the Win2003 server guest that I'm running on my OpenSuSE 11.1 host.

Does anyone know how I can accomplish this?

Thanks in advance.

I doubt it will. About the only think that might work is to force VBox to think that it is a CDROM by assigning the VBOX_CDROM environment variable to this device and then mounting this "CDROM" in passthough mode. What this does is to pass the IDE commands directly to the host device, and is typically used to access CD devices in non-ISO mode, such as DVD writing.

However, the code does include some checks and so this won't necessarily work.
