I am trying to create a VDMK file for 2 partitions I have on my laptop which contain files from a windows install.
I am not trying to load my windows install I just want access to the files from within a virtual windows machine within Virtualbox.
Each time I try to create the file image I get an error:
Error while creating the raw disk VMDK: VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER
The raw disk vmdk file was not created
My goal is to have the 2 additional partitions show up as a E: and F: drive within the virtual windows. Is this possible and am I trying to do the right thing?
I have found most people try to fix this problem with chmod /dev/sda*, sda2 or sda3 but this hasnt worked for me.
Can someone help me out what is going wrong with my creation of the VMDK file?

You have to create the VMDK as the root user. But it's probably a lot easier to mount the partitions on the Host and use Samba or Shared Folders instead. You can mount the shares like any normal network share that way to a drive letter. It's a lot safer too, 'cause having a drive mounted on two different systems at the same time can cause data corruption.
It should be "safe" if the drive isn't mounted when using RAW Disk in the Guest.
