Hi,

I installed VirtualBox 2.1.2 (binaries) for linux hosts (all distributions) without problems but I didn´t found instructions how to remove it. Can anyone help me ?

Thanks in advance.

If you use the deb or rpms packages then its a lot easier because they have explicit uninstall options. I am not sure about the all distros .run type kit. One tacky way to do it is to do a modprobe -l | grep /vb then the corresponding modprobe -r to remove them, then use find to look for "VBox*", "vbox" and "virtualbox" then remove them manually.

if you have the tarfiles, you can create a list of files with

Code: Select all

tar tf [tarfile] > list-of-files
then you can remove the list-of-files with:

Code: Select all

rm `cat list-of-files`
Take care that you do NOT specify -r with the rm command because sometimes the list might contain a directory that has other files from different programs.

I believe if you run the install script again it will complain that it is already installed, and give you the command to uninstall it.

Better is to give the --help parameter to the .run file. Should usually generate an options list.
