USB connection problems

Post by reggler »

Hi,

I have a Logitech USB webcam that I would like to make available to my WinXP guest. I have added Unknown Device 041E:401C [0064] to the filter list as dmesg is telling me

Code: Select all

[85694.377038] usb 4-2.3: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9
[85694.510526] usb 4-2.3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[85694.514238] gspca: probing 041e:401c
[85694.759343] zc3xx: probe sif 0x0007
[85694.763033] zc3xx: probe sensor -> 0f
[85694.763038] zc3xx: Find Sensor PAS106
[85694.771583] gspca: probe ok
when connecting the cam to my usb hub. Also my user reg is in the group vboxusers as my entry in /etc/groups looks like this:
vboxusers:x:122:reg
So what else could be the problem here, any ideas?

Oh also, when i boot up my virtual machine and i click on the little usb plug in the status bar, i get a pop-up showing me all the connected usb devices but they're all disabled - even the cam...:?:
Thank you!

USB Does not Pass Through To Guest on Linux Host

Post by DWade »

I'd like to add that not only your camera, but any usb device will not pass throught from the linux host to the guest operating system

I came here hoping to find a solution.

I am editing. I found the solution
I did find the solution. I am using Kubuntu. I edited my user in system setting to include my self as a vbox user but forgot to reboot the other day. It is working today.

If you can not edit the user groups from administer or system settings
then Click here http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=14057
Kasperbs and metodk wrote the fix for counsole
Listed below
step one in a console check if you are a user of Vbox
$ grep vbox /etc/group
if not then type
Let say I am user DWade
sudo /usr/sbin/adduser $(DWade) vboxusers

Remember to reboot.......

See the VirtualBox FAQ for some help with USB. A reboot is not needed when changing your user. Just log off and back on to make the changes take effect. For the FAQ entry, a sudo mount -a should be enough too. No need to reboot.
