Hi,

I upgraded from 1.66 to 2.1.2. I'm running on fedora 8. and when I now launch vbox, I get the following messages regarding my win XP Pro guest::

Could not load the settings file '/mnt/xpdisk/home/erush/.VirtualBox/Machines/WinXPPro/WinXPPro.xml'.
Element '{http://www.innotek.de/VirtualBox-settings}HostInterface': The attribute 'name' is required but missing.
Element '{http://www.innotek.de/VirtualBox-settings}HostInterface': The attribute 'name' is required but missing.

Result Code:
VBOX_E_XML_ERROR (0x80BB000A)
Component:
VirtualBox
Interface:
IVirtualBox {339abca2-f47a-4302-87f5-7bc324e6bbde}

The .xml file is there, but any ideas why I'm getting this?

thanks,
Ed

I assume this is a bug in the code which handles upgrades from older .xml versions to newer. The easy way is to make sure that no VBoxSVC daemon is running (check with ps) and then edit the .xml file manually. Remove the entries containing the host interface description.

That seems to have done the trick, thanks so much!

It's about the NIC settings. Search for Interface or similar.

Yup Dude, I just deleted everything in between the <Network></Network> brackets and that made it come back up :) Great thanks!
