Windows 7 64 Install on Vista Host
I am trying to get Windows 7 (64 bit) installed onto Virtualbox 2.1.2
I have Windows 7 as an install disk. I am following the set-up wizard for Windows 7 64 bit however, if I select Windows 7 as the guest OS in the set-up menu, Virtualbox crashes when it tries to access the DVD. However, if I just select Windows 7 in the set-up, windows starts to load, but then fails as the cpu is not compatible with 64-bit mode.
Has anyone any idea what could be the problem?

Can you post a part of the log, or post the full log to pastebin and paste the URL here so we can see what might be the problem.

I have posted the entire log on pastebin as suggested
http://pastebin.com/m19ec5df1
Something is causing the VM to crash back to Windows, it could well be me doing something wrong but if so I don't know what.
Thanks in advance for all the help

Same issue with me. Beta on a DVD not ISO. I am not at home so I can't do the pastebin. During installation of the Win 7 beta I got the same error. CPU not 64bit.
I'm using an HP Laptop with Vista Home 64bit. I am running Unbuntu(32 bit) and XP clients w/out issue. I updated to the latest.
I'm no expert so I'm just along for the information.

I'm having a related issue.
Host O/S: Windows Vista Home Prem.
Install O/S: Windows 7 beta 64 bit (mounted as iso)
When I select Windows 7 64bit in the menu and try booting off the mounted iso, the program immediately crashes. If I select the "Windows 7" option and try booting the iso in 32bit mode, the program will not crash, but I will get the expected message informing me that the CPU is not 64bit compatible.
System Specs: (laptop)
AMD Turion X2 TL-60 64bit @ 2GHZ
3GB DDR II RAM
NVIDIA GeFroce 7150M
160GB SATA

Andy, I found something strange in your log. There are two things. I saw that your CPU has HyperThreading. This is strange, 'cause only Intel should have that. Might be a faulty detection by VB though.
The somewhat more 'disturbing' issue is that at the beginning, neither Virtualisation nor PAE is enabled.

See the values that are on '0'? Those should be on '1' I think. I don't have a VT-x/AMD-V compatible processor or other hardware to check this though.00:00:16.797 HwVirtExtForced <integer> = 0x0000000000000000 (0)

I am having the same problem. I am running Vista64, and when I try to boot the DVD of either Ubuntu 64bit or Windows 7 64bit in VB it says I don't have a 64bit CPU.
Now I think this is some kind of VB bug because using this very same version, when I first installed it, I booted the Win7 64 bit DVD and installed it. But after I rebooted the host machine it no longer worked. I have since tried uninstalling and reinstalling VB, uninstalling VB rebooting Vista then reinstalling VB but still it won't run any 64bit OS I try.
32bit OSes seem to run fine and without any issue.
FYI I am running a Intel Q6600 processor so 64bit shouldn't be an issue.

Are you all sure that your BIOS has Virtualisation enabled, AMD-v/VT-x, ACPI, PAE and I/O APIC are all ticked in the VM settings?
Mystique, I saw some strange things in your log that shouldn't be there I think. It first notes that virtualisation in the processor is on, but later it lists the CPU features and if it's available on the Host and Guest. It is on in the Host, but not the Guest.
Please check the requirements again.

i'm runing amd64 version of VB, but i have no AMD CPU, i just have Intel CPU, so there could be the problem.
I did some check by VMware tool if this CPU is compatible with x64 OS and it passed, but i think it's not suported yet by the VB,
so i'm testing Windows 7 x32
Anyway, thanks a lot for your answer.

Can easely be a bios problem, check to see if there is a newer bios.

I checked last night and AMD-v/VT-x is grayed out for me.Sasquatch wrote:Are you all sure that your BIOS has Virtualisation enabled, AMD-v/VT-x, ACPI, PAE and I/O APIC are all ticked in the VM settings?
