Is it possible to install Virtual box on a flash drive or external drive and exec it on another machine without having to install it on the new machine?
TIA,
Fred

I tried this and it was very slow. U need to use %_pathsomething%/sun/Virtual box/
I was using a U3 USB and it works on all my windows machines but like I said it is very slow, so I have just installed to the HD of all my machines.

Thanks for your reply. What path should I be setting? I'm not clear what you mean by %_pathsomething%/sun/Virtual box/
If I install it on an external HDD will still make an entry in the win registry?

You can change the install folder in the installer. What mrhobbeys means with %_somepath%, is the path to your USB drive. It shouldn't matter where the program is installed, the registry keys and all will be created. However, if you want to run VB on another computer, you need to install it there too because of the system drivers it needs.
I have my VMs on an external hard drive which is attached to USB on my laptop and to my internal SATA (thanks to the eSATA > SATA converter that came with it) in my PC, and the VMs themselves run fine. No real performance issues. The program itself is installed on the local hard drive, not the external.

Thanks. That's my current setup. I was hoping I wouldn't have to install VB on every machine.

There is a version that runs on a portable device, but that is not supported by Sun. It's likely that it's the OSE version, so no USB support for VMs either.

That is 100 times clearer than what I had. Thanks
