Upgrade to 2.1.2 fragged my virtual disks - need help

I recently upgraded from vbox 2.0.4 to 2.1.2 on windows XP SP3

When I launch my vm's it just hangs now...in the machine log the last line is:

00:00:04.001 Guest Log: BIOS: Booting from Hard Disk...

and nothing else ever happens.

I've already uninstalled/reinstalled, even installed it on a new machine without any luck.

Any suggestions to debug/resolve this issue?

Ahmmm... downgrade to 2.04/6 and restore vdi from backup?

The downgraded version wouldn't open the files either. I went back to an old rar'd copy of the HD image and its working - I have unfortunately lost all the data I was working on.

Is there a HD image repair tool available anywhere?

Closed the vm, tried restarting it - now the image has been corrupted again...boot up hangs like before

Sounds more like a hardware/software host problem then a VM problem. Did you restore the VB config files as well? Try some diagnostic software on your host first to exclude problems there.

No I didn't restore any VB files.

What diagnostic software can you refer me to? The included help files and manual is not very helpful for troubleshooting this kind of problem.

Are there any size limits on the virtual HD's? i.e. >4GB craps out?

To me it looks like a problem with vbox and I would like to find more detail on where its hanging up...

It looks like you are using FAT32 disks which has a 4g limit. Convert to ntfs.

Both host machine and vHD are NTFS

There is no reason why then, I have vdisks of many gigs large. Do you use harddisk compression?

No. It was just a shot in the dark. I was suspecting that the vHD image somehow got corrupted after adding contents to it.
