VBox on Linux (latest kernel) w/ WinXP64Bit guest - No USB

Post by nmvega »

Hi:

Environment:

HOST: Fedora Core 10 - Kernel v2.6.28.2
GUEST: Windows XP 64Bit

PROBLEM:
While VirtualBox (the tool) as well as Linux themselves see the USB devices
I have plugged into the computer, I can't get VirtualBox to promote the USB
devices into the Windows XP64 GUEST.

Not that I understand the "USB Filter" VirtualBox section (and that
may be a pilot-error problem), I tried both selecting and omitting the particular
USB device I was interested in seeing under Windows, but neither case
worked.

Note: Device manager under XP64 shows the following USB info:

- Intel 82801FB/FBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 265C"
- Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
- USB Root Hub
- USB Root Hub

Am I missing doing something / something incorrectly checked?

Thanks In Advance
Regards,
Noel

Did you also execute the USB fix for your Host? See the VirtualBox FAQ for it.

Thank you Sasquatch.

As a summary, add the following line to your "/etc/fstab"
file, and VirtualBox guests will see those USB devices that
you allow it to see:

# ========================================================
# Manually added so VirtualBox can export USB devices to Guests O/S's.
# ========================================================
none /sys/bus/usb/drivers usbfs devgid=501,devmode=664 0 0
# ========================================================

Be sure that the line appears in the output of the "mount" command
after you've inserted the above line.
