I just downloaded the VBox 2.12 upgrade, but when I try to install, I get: "Error: Conflicts with the installed package 'virtualbox-2.0'"

What do I do to get it to update?

I tried shutting down VBox before upgrading, but same error.

Host: Ubuntu 8.10
Client: Windows XP SP3

Uninstall 2.0; reboot; install 2.1 -- that's what I did.

Bah, I guess I have to reinstall Windows and all my apps as well? Well, I just got Office 2007 in the mail today, so maybe it's good timing...

Edit: actually, just removing the old version (not "completely" remove option) and installing the new version in Synaptic did the trick, and I still have the Windows image. Now to see if Office 2007 is compatible with VBox...

You could have done a complete removal. It will only remove settings in the global folders, not your home drive.
And Office 2007 will run just fine. I had it running since 1.5.0.
