I can't add shared folders with vboxguestadditions

Post by josejoa »

I have virtualbox installed in Windows xp and 3 guest os (ubuntu, windows 7 and windows xp), in none I can't add share folders with vboxguestadditions because when i add share in shared folders settings within machine folders, after I place the folder path in the drop box the ok button remains disabled so I can't finalize this action.

I have installed and activated the vboxguestadditions, my version of virtualbox is 2.1.2

It's very strange, if anyone has some clue help me please.

Does the name of the Shared Folder contain illegal characters, like white spaces? Use single words only, preferably lowercase.

not at all

The name of shared folder is: VirtualBox Shared

I know that the vboxguestadditions are activated because the mouse can go everywhere through the full screen without pressing the crtl right

Thanks for your answer

See my post before. One word, capital letters, no signs.

I just told you, no white spaces. The name you have now does contain it. Just call it 'shared'.

wow

You was right. I didn't think that this silly matter was the cause of the malfunction and I didn't pay attention in your explanations. The trouble was in the spaces in blank in the name of folder, thank you very much for your help :D

Hi,
it would be nice if someone files the bug report. Software should check if there are wrong characters used for share name.

It already does this check, hence the disabled OK button ;). Though it should probably give some kind of visual feedback, like a baloon tooltip when entering an illegal space, or convert/ommit it directly.

windows 7

Post by josejoa »

The problem is that Windows 7 doesn't work with shared folders, while Windows xp works fine. Maybe in future versions of virtualbox this will be arranged...

And what did you try to get to this conclusion? Saying "it doesn't work" and not saying why or what doesn't help much.

some links

Post by josejoa »

In this link: http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=13182
it talks about a solution (i think so complicated) under Windows vista host, but i'm trying under windows xp host.
Here: http://www.ideaexcursion.com/2009/01/15 ... orkaround/
also talks about an easy workaround but still appears under vista host
Another link: http://techknack.net/windows-7-and-virtualbox/
"Windows networking, for some reason or other, wouldn’t connect with \\vboxsvr (used for VBox shared folders). However, it was able to access the shared folders of other computers on the network just fine."

Under windows xp host it doesn't appear to work, maybe under windows vista host, did you test it?
