Upgrade - Error: Conflicts with the installed package

I am trying to upgrade from Vbox v2.0.6 to v2.1.2, and when I try and run the upgrade package I get the following error:
Error: Conflicts with the installed package 'virtualbox-2.0'

Do I need to uninstall the old version first?
If so will I loose my settings or virtual machines?

I removed the old virtualbox-2.0 and rebooted for luck before installing 2.1. The uninstall does not touch your .Virtualbox directory, so you'll pick up all your old stuff when you install the new version.

Thanks, that helped me, too! I was worried about uninstalling lest it lose my VM or config; it did not.
