Video-mode for widescreen

Starting a virtual machine provides a lot of video-modes except some for widescreen. After installation of Vboxguestaddidions contrary to my expectation I found much less modi. Is this normal and how can I get an mode for widescreen?

With guest additions installed it should automatically select a video mode for the side of the window (or entire screen if using seamless). At least, it does for me.

What guest OS and what version of VB?

OS is xp-Prof and VB is 2.0.4. By using the fullscreen-mode it is using the widescreen but I woundered, that no widescreen is foreseen in the table of the virtual videocard and that after installation of Vboxguestaddidions that table shrinks to 640x480 and 800x600.
