USB-Media not recognized

Hello,

I've got a "Pico C" 8GB (Super Talent) usb flash drive but, there is one problem: VirtualBox 2.1.2 doesn't recognize it. When it is plugged in, VBoxManage list usbhost doesn't list it, too!
Can somebody help me? As I'm from Germany, I posted my question in the german forum first but, it seems that nobody has an answer for me...

I hope you can help me!

First check if the host sees is properly. Run an lsusb from a terminal, it should provide you with some information. If it's listed, then you should be able to select it in VB. By default, VB cannot access the USB system of Linux. See the VirtualBox FAQ for some help getting it to work.

The host sees it properly, lsusb lists it:

Code: Select all

Bus 004 Device 003: ID 0483:2016 SGS Thomson Microelectronics Fingerprint Reader
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 0a5c:2110 Broadcom Corp. Bluetooth Controller
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 005: ID 0000:0000
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
It is Device 005 on Bus 005 with ID 0000:0000.

Any other USB-device works properly in VB![/code]

Does VB see any USB stuff?
There are two versions, a closed source Sun version with USB and an open source version without USB.

VB sees ALL USB stuff! Only that particular USB device is not seen by VB!

Code: Select all

VBoxManage list usbhost
VirtualBox Command Line Management Interface Version 2.1.2

Host USB Devices:

As you can see, all other USB-Devices are listed!

Maybe because it doesn't have an id, maybe all 0 is not valid.
But VB should still recognize it (IMO).

That missing ID was my first idea, too. Problem is, that it won't be possible to change those zeros... ;-)

Any idea?

I'm thinking the developers are ignoring IDs with zeros.
I don't have a suggested but to wait and see if a developer responds.

OK, thank you anyway!
Let's wait...

Well I'd say replace the usb thing it's broken.

But before that see if say windows recognizes it and install the correct drivers.
If so then I'm at a loss.

Good Luck.

No, it's definitly not broken:
It works on the linux host!
It works on different windows pc's!
Thank you anyway.

I second this.
I also have a Pico 8GB drive.

lsusb list the device as:
Bus 003 Device 009: ID 0000:0000

Same thing on Windows. Zeros all the way... no id what so ever...

I tried creating a filter with the zeros but no luck.

Is there a way to tell VB to use that 0000:0000 device?

Thanks!

Looks like a hardware problem for me. I don't think that the 0000:0000 ID is a valid USB ID...

I saw some other posts over the Internet of other people with the same device showing as 0000:0000

BUT! The stupid drive died on me today.... that's what happens when you buy cheap! I learned my lesson now...
