USB Wirelss under VBox

Post by bobalay »

I'm running winxpSP3 and installed VB212 with win7x64 and got everything working except the wireless. My host machine is using a 802.11a/b/g wireless usb adapter to get internet access but I can't get the wireless to work under vb. I've tried the 4 adapter types and attached to options with no success. Even thou host interface & the 802.11 wireless usb lan option is there and highlighted I still have no connection under win7. Any help on getting this operational? I have a Asus rampage formula mobo and a trendnet usb adapter. Thanks.

Make sure you have proper internet on the Host first. Once you have that, set your VM to use one of the Intel adapters, Windows 7 does not have the driver for any of the PCNet adapters. After that, set the Attached mode to NAT. This is basically the easiest way to get internet on the Guest. Now check if it works by opening the browser and go to a random site. Google.com is usually a good start, as it's fast and always up ;).
You have to make sure that the primary DNS server of the Host works, else the VM won't have a working DNS. See the VirtualBox FAQ for more info on that matter.
