internet connection in guest machine

internet connection in guest machine

i have installed a new xp professional on the guest machine.
just wanted to know how to make a network connection on this guest machine.
i tried the same thing as in the host machine.although i shows lan connected but i dont get ping from the gateway.what do i need to do.

What are you network settings in the Guest? To what kind of interface is the network attached? Did you read the manual to understand what all the different settings mean?

Open guest machine properties and make sure that Network | Adapter 1 | Attached to: is set to Host Interface. Unfortunately (IMHO) it's not by default.
