How to save last used windows size?

Post by Markman-B »

Dear VB users,

I use a 19inch TFT 4:3 panel. Maximum (fullscreen) resolution for this panel is 1280x1024.

However working in fullscreen mode (guest) isn't always comfortable (can't get fully acces to the host) so most of the time I set the resolution in the guest to 1152x862 (picture 1)

After that I push the windows maximize button in the guest twice, which results in a far better resolution: 1280x909 (picture 2). After that I have to rearrange the icons on my desktop, because they've lost their original position (i use an icon desktop tool for this).

It seems that setting 1280x909 is not being stored in the guest. Each time when I restart one of my VM's I have to repeat all the actions mentioned above. Can this be solved, or is there a quicker way to lock the desired resolution in the guest?

Your help is being very appreciated.

(host is XP and guest is XP)

No one? I can't imagine I'm the only one with this minor problem.

Hi - Have you tried installing the monitor driver in your guest? Typically Windoze loosing resolution on boot is because the OS cant determine the monitor type etc. so uses the Plug&Play default (which is often 800*600).

Its worth a try.

First of all, thanx for your help.

I did not install the drivers yet, but I'll give it a try.
However... I expect that the desired resolution 1280x909 on my guest, is not supported by my Ati graphics card. (2600 PRO)

It's strange that this happens. I use the same VMs on my laptop and PC (through the use of an external hard drive) and the resolution that is used on my laptop (max reso is 1280x800 16:10 ratio) that reso is also used on my PC, which has a 19" 5:4 monitor (1280x1024). The Guest is always is windowed mode, maximized to take as much space on the screen as possible.

Now I don't know if it matters, but I don't use Windows as Host anymore. I use Ubuntu now.

Installing the ati driver in the guest is not possible.
The guest doesn't recognize the ati card installed on the host.

I get the proper resolution when I resume my VMs, but like I said, it's possible that the Host is responsible for this. Though it should not matter.

ps, keep it in English, there might be others that have the same issue ;). Edit your post to change it.
