If the BIOS does not let you enable vt-x/amd-v then you need a newer BIOS, if thats not possible you are out of luck.

Just for the record: today I upgraded BIOS to version 4.02 ... AMD-V is now enabled correctly from BIOS (BIOS setting is set to Enabled) and I'm able to run 64-bit guest within VirtualBox. Current setup: VBox 3.0.4, host 64-bit debian lenny, guest 64-bit Ubuntu jaunty server, using 2-way SMP (out of 4 host cores), nested paging is disabled (as per my decision).npettigrew wrote:I have the same setup as the chap xw9400 Dual AMD and 3.13 Bios and cannot get Hardware Virtualization working in VMWare to run ESX Server using AMD - v option.
I have tried enable / disable etc but it still says to me when I boot the ESX host on VMWorkstation Hardware Virtualization not enabled in BIOS.
Any ideas what could be the issue here as I have done the same with a lower end xw2400 but with Intel - VT and same VMWare Workstataion.
Appreciate any help as I am tearing what is left of my hair out.

according to http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection. ... lyID=28398 the Q8200 does not support VT-xrudochar wrote:I have the same problem. I have an Intel quad Q8200 (I checked that it supports VT-x). my mobo is an MSI P6NGM-FIH. Perhaps I missed something in the BIOs setting or no option exist to enable VT-x.
Does anyone know if there is a way for me to check if my mobo supports VT-x? works fine on my other mobo (AMD9550). But I hear that it is always enable in AMD CPUs.
thanks
