can't set more Video Memory

Post by varomix »

Hi

I have a problem with video memory I can only set it to a max of 32, if I got pass that I start at 600 x 480 @ 4 bit

this worked fine till I installed the new nvidia driver 180.11, I went back to my old driver 177.82 but same thing.

I'm using ubuntu 8.10 64 and virtualbox 2.1.2

thank you

I do not quite understand your problem. Why do you need 32MB (or more) of video memory?

8MB should be enough to run at 1600 x 1200 @ 32-bit color.

Does that make any difference on the applications performance, the apps running inside virtualbox?

I thought it did

No, VGA RAM is only needed for display. The higher the memory, the more details it can show, or the higher the resolution. If you want to run at 1600x1200 at seamless, you do need more. Like 12, or 16 MB is plenty.
