So my previously flawless virtalbox install is now broke since upgrading from 2.1.0 to 2.1.2.

ubuntu intrepid host, xp guest. alsa audio, host networking.

guest hangs with high cpu utilitation, svchost, mcshield.

Now I have tried to downgrade back to the working 2.1.0 but this fails with an error about the xml version..

Help.

I reverted guest additions back to 2.1.0 and I seem to be operating ok. I notice small change with audio. I used to experience a clicking on audio .. now audio works good but mic has feedback.. I use a softphone on vbox guest.

If mcshield takes all the CPU, then your issue is with McAfee, not VB. Though the new GA might offend McAfee anti-virus somehow to cause this CPU abuse.
Svchost usually takes up quite a lot of CPU upon boot, but it should stop in a few minutes. All it does is check for updates if you have Automatic Updates on in Windows.

I see other post with similar problems.

So yea.. mcafees great..

the svchosts seems to be the one that really kills the guest. the cpu pegs on the host too, but I use topset to limit vbox to one cpu, so host dosnt become unstable.

Currently contiues to work fine using the 2.1.0 guest additions.
