Actually I think there's a misunderstanding here. KVM refers to the keyboard/mouse/display switch devices; not to the Linux KVM kernel driver.

Sander, not all systems seems to need a filter to be able to use the USB device. Two friends of mine use VB while they weren't in the VBoxUsers group (no error when starting the VM, and no, they aren't root) and after the USB fix, they were able to use USB devices without setting any filter (they didn't have an empty filter either). You might want to take a look at that.

You can either use USB devices by capturing them manually (from the Devices menu iirc) or by specifying filters.

Ah, that makes sense. I though you had to create a filter, either specific or emtpy, before you could actually use USB in the VM.
