Installing Vista 64 client on VirtualBox 2.1.2

Post by half12 »

Can not install Vista 64 client using VirtualBox 2.1.2 on either WinXP x64 or Solaris 10 host as Vista 64 fails after loading files with a cpu fault indicating that the cpu is not 64bit. The WinXP x64 is running on a dual opteron 270 and Solaris 10 is running on a dual opteron 265. The opteron 265 and 270 both include amd-v virtualisation technology but while on solaris 10 the amd-v is enabled that option is grayed out on WinXP x64.
In order to complete a sucessful Vista 64 install do I need to use an Opteron 2200 or 2300 series cpu?

Hello,

i have a similar Problem.

Host Vista64
Guest WIN7 64
Q6600

Already installed WIN7 with 2.1.0 - no problems
After upgrading to 2.1.2 - endless reboots.

New install failed after loading files with error that the CPU is not 64Bit.

This is discussed in Forum FAQ and in the user guide. You need a VT-x / AMD-V enabled CPU + a BIOS which enables virtualisation.
