v2.1.2 - "Can't find license files..."

Hi,
I've just upgraded to 2.1.2 from 2.1.0 on a Fedora 10 system.
When i start virtualbox, i get the following error message:
"Failed to find license files in /usr/share/doc/VirtualBox-2.1.0_41146_fedora9."
/usr/share/doc/VirtualBox-2.1.0_41146_fedora9 doesn't exist (i assume it was deleted by the update).
I've worked around this by symlinking /usr/share/doc/VirtualBox-2.1.0_41146_fedora9 to /usr/share/doc/VirtualBox-2.1.2_41885_fedora9 and virtualbox now works.

Please could you uninstall the old 2.1.0 package and install the 2.1.2 package then? I assume something did not work during the upgrade. The GUI should really ask for the 41885 file.

Yes, that seems to have worked. I deleted the symlink and uninstalled virtualbox. Then reinstalled the new version and it doesn't complain about the licence now.

After upgrading from 2.1.0 to 2.1.2, I get the same thing in Fedora Core 7:
"Failed to find license files in /usr/share/doc/VirtualBox-2.1.0_41146_fedora7."
The install went cleanly. Only the new 2.1.2 package is installed; 2.1.0 is no longer installed. Like the OP, I was able to get up and running with a symlink for now.

Uh oh, my morning just got a little longer. VirtualBox now starts up, but attempting to start my WinXP guest results in an aborted attempt. The log file shows:
Code: Select all
00:00:01.300 ERROR [COM]: aRC=NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) aIID={e3c6d4a1-a935-47ca-b16d-f9e9c496e53e} aComponent={Console} aText={Unknown error creating VM (VERR_VERSION_MISMATCH)} aWarning=false, preserve=false
00:00:01.324 Power up failed (vrc=VERR_VERSION_MISMATCH, rc=NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0X80004005))
I still get this message even after rebooting the linux host. So much for a quick and easy gratuitous Friday morning upgrade.

In 2.1.0 the VM settings had to be converted to a new version, with 2.1.2 the same had to be done. Did you get any question about this? If not, that's the problem.
