Hi,
i tried to install VB 2.1.0 on openSUSE 11.0 (KDE3.5) 64bit
and got some errors.
required packages are installed.

Starting VB after installation is possible but guests aborting during installation.

HW is the new Shuttle SG45H7, G45 Express RAM 8GB
VT is on in BIOS
doesn't matter if VT is enabled in VB or not.
Installation:

rpm -ivh VirtualBox-2.1.0_41146_openSUSE11-1.x86_64.rpm

cat /var/log/vbox-install.log:

Try 2.1.2 as its got a lot of fixes in it. If you still can't install then post back.

Errors on VB 2.1.0, openSUSE 11.0 64bit

Hm, funny:

I uninstalled it:
rpm -e VirtualBox
deleted all folders and installed the new version:
rpm -ivh VirtualBox-2.1.2_41885_openSUSE110-1.rpm
i missed the message "Successfully installed",but it was
startable.

I created a new vm over the gui with WINDOWS XP SP2 and it worked.

But:
as i tried to create a second vom with WINDOWS 2000 the
harddiskspace from the first vm was used.
XP dif boot !!!

Howcan i created a vm with VBoxManage:
VBoxManage createvm -name w2k -ostype "WINDOWS 2000"
VBoxManage createvm -name w2k -ostype "Windows 2000"
VBoxManage createvm -name w2k -ostype "WINDOWS2000"
VBoxManage createvm -name w2k -ostype "Windows2000"
VBoxManage createvm -name w2k -ostype 'Windows2000'
VBoxManage createvm -name w2k -ostype 'Windows2000'
???
The usermanual doesn't explain it exactly.

Last Q first -ostype win2k. Missed that option :lol:

Forgive me but I don't understand what you mean by "as i tried to create a second vm with WINDOWS 2000 the harddisk space from the first vm was used. XP dif boot !!!"

You can share HDs if they are immutable (see the User guide) otherwise you will need to clone the VDIs. Again discussed in manual

ok.
I cerated a vm "w2k" via gui, created harddiskspace "w2k" and
installed windows 2000.
Then i created a new vm "xp2" with new harddiskspace, the gui
said the name is "xp2", but when tried to boot the vm "xp2"
the harddiskspace from "w2k" booted.

So i tried to install the vms via VBoxManage createvm createhd and
modifyvm. This seems to work, but the options for the NICs are not
accepted. Is it:
-nic1 nat
-nic 1 nat
-nic1 NAT

"VBoxManage modifyvm w2k -biosbootmenu menuonly"
did also not work.

So i defined vm with VBoxManage, created vmhardisks and set
the rest of the settings.
Windows 2000 and XP could be installed succesfully.

It seems that the gui doesn't work correct in adding the vmhardisks.

Thanks

I did a complet installtion of openSUSE 11.0,
installed all the packages:
* kernel-source
* kernel-syms
* Xalan-c
* Xerces-c
* gcc
* make
installed virtual box:
sudo rpm -ivh VirtualBox-2.1.2_41885_openSUSE110-1.x86_64.rpm
After reboot i have this in /var/log/warn:

What did i do wrong?

Thanks
When you create a new VM, and for the question which hard disk to use, the dropdown menu will list the already existing images. Hit the 'New' button to create a new hard disk, which will then get selected.
This is done in case you remove the VM, but not the Virtual Hard Disk. In previous versions, the dropdown menu wasn't populated, now it is. Just keep an eye on that next time you create another VM.

Hi Sasquatch,

i did it that way but the 2nd vm used the harddiskspce from
the first vm.

What about the last line before
"Changing the VM state from 'RUNNING' to 'RESETTING'":
"Display::handleDisplayResize(): uScreenId = 0, pvVRAM=0000000000000000 w=720 h=400 bpp=0 cbLine=0x0 "

Do i have a prolem with my RAM respectively Video RAM?

This is a very new shuttle barebone SG45H7 with 8GB RAM
and Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X4500HD(onboard).

Does the vm use the RAMs or the Video RAMs for VRAM?

Thanks
AK

I'm not certain which RAM it actually takes, but I suggest not to set it higher than the default 8 MB unless you really have to.

Hi,
it seems the problem is on the network side:

The first two installations were at home using DHCP on the host.
That didn't work.

The third installation in my company with static ip and gw and proxy
on the host worked and the kernelmodules where correctly translated,
vms can now installed nad can be used.

Does vboxdrv, vboxnetflt need a static ip ?

What about the other files in the directory
http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... .0/x86_64/
kbuild, libmudflap, libgfortran and so on?
Are they needed for installation/building of the kernel-module
or needed for building the whole virtualbox package?

I think it is solved:

WINDOWS2000 could not installed cause the installation
saw the QuadCore CPU through acpi and WINDOWS2000
is noot able to operate with multiple CPUs.
Disableing acpi in the properties of this vm would help.

Thank
