Problem - 3D applications on Linux Host / Windows Guest

Hello,

I have installed the full 2.1.0 version of Virtual Box on my OpenSuse 11.0 x86_64. I installed Windows XP on the virtual machine successfully.

Then I downloaded and installed my favorite 3D modeling program: Luxology Modo (you can get a trial version on www.luxology.com ). The moment I tried to run it - it crashes with a Send/Don't Send popular windows message.

I read here that a lot of guys have successfully installed and played some DirectX/OpenGL games through VirtualBox using its graphics acceleration features. Anyway with this OpenGL software (Modo) I can't get it running. What could be the problem?

My settings fot the virtual box are: 2GB RAM (of 4GB physical) and 128MB video memory (out of 128 available), i tried also with 64mb video - same result.

I also tried installing and running latest Blender inside virtualbox (yes, i know there is a Linux version too), just for the test. I can navigate in the 3D space of the program but when I try to go to the top menu - the program interface freezes and blender stops responding.

In both cases of these 2 programs - i have to restart the virtual Windows in order to clean its desktop because parts of the crashed/frozen programs stay on the screen and never go away.

Any ideas on how can I get Modo running inside VirtualBox?

2. Photoshop CS3/CS4 - they both install and run ok. Anyway the Color Proofing features in the menu don't work properly. I can't see the actual proof of color space because it never changes the colors as expected. Any ideas about that too?

I would really appreciate if someone can tell me how to use properly 3D applicaitons inside VirtualBox.

Thank you.

My hardware: Dual Xeon EM64T 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 160+500GB SATA disks, NVidia Quadro FX 560/128MB
OS: OpenSUSE 11.0 64-bit

P.S. I also tried 3D Studio MAX 2009. The 3d part of the interface looks broken and program is also unusable as other 3d programs mentioned. Another program I tried was OSGViewer. It makes 160fps but GLSL shaders don't work as expected.

hello everybody,
i have got the same problem with virtualbox 2.1.2 on a debian-host and xp-guest using modo302. the installation passes without any problems, but modo is not starting and gives only the error-message and finishes.
i have seen the Ticket #3091 (new defect) regarding the same problem and this entry here.
it would be very nice if you probably have got any idea how to solve this problem.
thanks in advance

Did you try enabling 3d acceleration in the VM settings?

I was able to get DAZ Studio to run in 2.1.2 by doing so.

Cheers,

Rod

You are using an experimental features. That means: It may work or not. In your case second.

Wait for following Releases or better dual boot.
