Hi,

I was wondering how can I share the network connection I have on my host machine so that the guest machine (Ubuntu Server 8.10) can have access to the internet?

At home what I did was create a new network adapter and then bridged this with the network connection I had available from the Network Connections window on my host machine. At home this worked fine.

At work I did the same however the after I bridge the network works fine from the host machine but never from the guest machine.

Am I forgetting to change some setting?

I have been trying to make this work for some time now without any luck. At the moment in my Network Connections folder I have 2 connections and 1 bridge. The VirtualBox Host Interface 1 has a cross on it, the Local Area Connection is fine (from host I can browse internet without any problems) and the Network Bridge (Network Bridge) 2 is also fine (that is there are no crosses.

I thought this would be enough since this is what I did at home. However I must add that at work we get access to the network through the username and password - I think they use Microsoft Exchange? (not sure).

Anyways - what I would like is to have access to the internet from the guest machine. I do not care if the machine is seen as the guest machine from the outside world for the moment - just happy to be able to access the net resources.

Just set the virtual NIC to be attached to NAT, make sure internet works on the Host and the primary DNS server is functioning. Then the VM will have internet. Unless you have a firewall that blocks it. See the VirtualBox FAQ for more info on that.
