how to bridge between virtualbox 2.10 host XP and client XP

Hi,
how do I connect from the host to a VM with virtualbox 2.10, if no physical network is attached to the host?
My scenario: I have a windows XP notebook offroad and a USB modem. For several reasons, I do not want to attach the modem to the host. I set up a client VM (windows XP), in which the modem driver etc. is installed, and I attached the modem to the virtual USB in the client VM (XP).
That works, in the client VM - I have internet access in the client VM. But I want to use that connection by windows internet connection sharing in the host. With virtualbox 2.0.4 it worked fine via a host interface and the virtual network card in the host supplied by virtualbox.
With 2.10, I can still choose "host interface", but I have no virtual adapter which can be configured for bridging or internet connection sharing - I need to select a physical network interface. I did so (the ethernet GBit adapter), but the host does not recognize the connection. The client says "connected", but the host reports "no cable attached to network adapter", which is correct, physically spoken. I tried to ping the client VM using the IP address the client VM reports, but it fails (host not reachable). In the network connections of the host, there is no virtual adapter I could use for the internet connection sharing configuration.
I tried "internal networking", but I still found no virtual device on the host in the network connections.
Is there any way to get back to some virtual adapter on the host, or ist there another way to set up the connection sharing?
Yours sincerely
