Hi All,
I have an MAUDIO FAST TRACK USB audio interface on a ubuntu 8.10 host and windows XP SP3 as guest.
All works fine except the usb soundcard that when used by USB on guest makes the sound choppy, and when trying to use directly the settings on the VB does not show the interface, only my internal onboard soundcard.
My question is, can i configure audio for the VB to an USB soundcard?? or, what to do to resolve the choppy sound with audio USB on the XP guest??
Thanks

VB will use the default sound adapter that is set on the Host. So if the onboard is set as default, it will use that card.

Thanks for the reply.
OK, but i cannot set the USB sound card as the default on the host, the combo not list my usb soundcard. How can I set an USB sound card in VB settings?? Seems that VB only lists onboard soundcard, not the USB ones....

VB list no soundcard, only sound servers. And the commonly used on Linux are OSS, ALSA and PulseAudio. You have to set in the sound server which device is the default. If you can't, then you have to use the USB option of VB, but as you stated, that doesn't sound all too good.

the USB option does not work really, the sound becomes distorced, is not an option.
I have tried use jack, but does not appear too in the list, only NULL, ALSA, OSS and PULSEAUDIO.
What about the second list "Audio Controller" ?? It's not here where the soundcard suposed to be listed???
Thanks

Audio Controller is what Audio card the VM sees. Older Guests, like Windows 98 and DOS, cannot handle the AC'97 card. I have a Realtek HD Audio in my laptop and a Creative Live! 24 bit in my PC, both work fine, but are not listed in VB

I have similar issues with usb audio using cmedia usb headphones. The sound is very choppy or stutters. I filed a bug report a few weeks ago:
http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3005 So far, the bug hasn't been assigned. I have not found that changing anything in the audio setup makes any difference, leading me to believe that this is strictly a USB issue. Adding your problems to the bug report might make it more likely to get noticed.

OK I'll try put the USB sound card as "default" i.e. hw:0,0 device and using as the sound controller for the VB.
and I'll post the results here...
