Hey all, this is an odd one, I'll admit...

I'm a Photo Lab Manager at a local camera shop. We recently purchased a ColorMunki for our color profiling needs, and while the paper gets profiled easily, the display has been a real challenge.

So, what we determined, along with the manufacturer (X-Rite) is that the monitor technology called "DDC" is causing the monitor to adjust itself while the display is being profiled. Of course, this not good.

Unfortunately, there is no way possible to disable DDC in a Windows OS. Furthermore, this profiling software will not run under Linux, as it uses .NET, and thus will have far too many complications to consider using WINE.


The DDC technology is easily disabled under a Linux OS, so here's my question:

If I use a Linux Host with DDC disabled in the xorg.conf, and then run ColorMunki from within a Windows Guest (any WIndows Guest, could use XP, Vista, or 7 beta), would that solve our problem, or only introduce new ones?


My main concern on this forum is determining whether or not DDC will be functioning at all on a Windows Guest if the Host has it disabled. More to the point, does DDC work at all in a VM?

From what I understand, is that it uses some special commands or something to change the resolution of the display, correct? If that is correct, then running the program inside VB should give you some help in solving this issue. But note that not all devices work in a VM. The only way you can be sure, is to do the test yourself. We can only speculate, but how it would turn out with the actual device is up to you to find out.
