VIrtual Box and using USB ports on Vista 64 bit

Post by ufriendly »

I am unable to activate the USB ports on my system from within VB. I am running XP pro in VB and want to be able to get to my flash drive connected to a USB port. What am I missing?
thanks

Are you using the closed source or open source version?

If you are using the open source version, then there is no USB support.

In the closed course version, you need to enable USB (and optionally set a filter). Then start the guest.

With VB having focus, plug your device in. Your host Windows will detect new hardware and ask for a driver, install the VB device driver. The device should now be available to the guest.

(All this is explained in the manual).

However, I have never managed to get USB support to work and have to resort to shared folders. Perhaps with a Windows host/Windows guest you will have more luck.

nope. vista host, xp/vista guests. Does lockup your system nicely though. With 2.1 i managed to get my usb printer to be recognized in the VM, even install the drivers. But the printer shows offline all the time.

Shared folders is my way also....

THanks guys, I will check this out and get back to you. Did the USB activation and filters for my printers, still no luck though.
