machine aborted with XP guest (networking, Emule)

Post by andremales »

with new version 2.10 on Ubuntu 8.04, i cannot use Emule on my emulated XP machine no more, because when i connect to Kad network, after some time, the machine goes abort.
I'm pretty sure that the problem is in the network layer (interaction with p2p program), 'cause all the other apps seems to work fine (like before).
I have never this problem until now (with old versions). I tried to change the driver of network card (the old and the new with new VBox additions) but the problem remain unchanged.

Someone else notice some strange problem on new network implementation?

It's possible that the vast amount of new connections created by eMule is too much for VB to handle, and it simply crashes. Have you tried to limit the max amount of connections in eMule? Already searched the forum and Bugtracker for similar issues?

Just to let you know that running eMule using Wine works perfect with Ubuntu for me for years now.

Both 8.04 and 8.10 with eMule 0.49b.

Depending on what you think you need Virtualbox for it might be, that you can actually do without.

There is a Linux version for it, called aMule.

Like Janmartin said, there are plenty of alternatives on Linux for Windows programs. Either a native alternative, or Wine can handle it. Only some more exotic programs still need Windows.

thanks for your answers.
I was using emule on win box 'cause i have a replica of my old XP-machine virtualized under virtualbox, so everytime i need some stuff or some old program that rarely use, i use that machine. Before of 2.1.0 emule works normally. Only this version crash virtual machine.
Now i downloaded new version 2.1.2, but seems to crash in the same way.
