Partitioning disk

I have Windows 64 bit XP and am installing CentOS 5 linux on the Sun VirtualBox 2.1. During the install I get a message from CentOS;

"The partition table on device hda was unreadable. To create new partitions it must be initialized, causing the loss of ALL DATA on this drive"

Is this normal? Do I really have to wipe my hard drive to install CentOS?
