whenever I try to install windows 7, i keep getting the same error message.
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files are available and restart the installation.
I took the iso file that I downloaded from Microsoft and mounted it. I have tried to install it too many times, deleting the hard drive and replacing it and making a new machine. Nothing works
Windows 7 on VB install problem
Re: Windows 7 on VB install problem
Try the suggestion as outlined by
it worked for me.
The reference is here http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=13274HeavenlyDemonic wrote: If you still have the Windows 7 Beta ISO:
1) Open xVM and Click NEW.
2) Name your VM Whatever, Choose MS Windows for the OS, and Other for Version.
3) Put whatever you want for Base Memory. Mine defaulted to 64 meg.
4) For the Boot Hard Disk VDI Click New.
5) Use Dynamic and make it at least 8 gigs.
6) Click Finish, Next, then Finish.
7) Right Click on your new VM, then click Settings.
Click on the CD/DVD Rom icon, and put a check in the Mount CD/DVD Drive. Now put a check in the ISO Image File radio button, and browse to your Windows 7 Beta ISO Image.
If this does not work for you, check and make sure you have the latest xVM version (2.1.0) ... if all else fails I would try following the steps in the HELP FILE where I pulled 90% of this info (though I also created a new VM while writing this just to be sure of the steps).
I set mine up earlier this morning and it installed in about 30 minutes, no issues.
it worked for me.
Re: Windows 7 on VB install problem
Does it mention a particular file? The first time I tried it, it mentioned 'install.wim' file as the problem.aboyd5292 wrote:whenever I try to install windows 7, i keep getting the same error message.

If Windows is your OS, see if you can install onto a partition of your hard drive (I don't know anything about Linux). You do not have to install completely but just to the point where it was giving you a problem in VB. If you can then that should tell you that there is nothing wrong with your iso. If it does not work then your iso is corrupt requiring another download.I took the iso file that I downloaded from Microsoft and mounted it.
Another alternative would be to verify the integrity of the ISO download by comparing the checksum information and if that is OK then verify the quality of the ISO burn by running a burn verify check after burning the ISO image to the disc.
