Problems installing Virtualbox 2.1 on 64-bit Ubuntu 8.10

Hi all,

I currently have Virtualbox 2.0.6 installed on my Ubuntu box which I downloaded the .deb file through the Virtualbox website. Today I have done the same with the 2.1 version and when I run the .deb package it reports the following: -

Code: Select all

Error: Conflicts with the installed package 'virtualbox-2.0'
The Install package button is greyed out. After I installed the 2.0.6 version I deleted the .deb file. How do I install the newer 2.1? Do I need to uninstall the 2.0.6 first? If so, how do I uninstall 2.0.6 when I didn't install it through Apt?

Cheers

I figured out how to uninstall V2.0.6 by using dpkg -r and now I have V2.1.0 installed.

One issue about V2.1.0 which I didn't have with any previous versions of VirtualBox is the mouse capture.

To get the host to capture the mouse I have to click it several times before the host will capture it. When I click the mouse a warning box appears with information about mouse capture with 2 buttons at the bottom with cancel and capture.

Cheers
