Shared folders inaccessible: Windows 7 guest, Ubuntu 8.10 ho

Post by quonsar »

Shared folders don't work after installing guest additions. Neither the GUI or the "net use x: \\vboxsvr\share" method. Windows is unable to find the server name. Anyone else having this problem?

Note Windows7 is not currently supported in VirtualBox.

Host Ubuntu 8.10, guest Windows7 Beta, VB 2.1.0, VB Shared folders not working, that is correct, I get the same. I have also not managed to share them under XP Pro SP3.

A possible work around however is with Host Interface Networking set up as a second network in Windows7, I can browse the Ubuntu 8.10 host's Shared folder, Windows7 itself and a Print server. I mapped a network drive to the Linux share and it worked. I was able to write to the folder. After a while the mapped drive was shown as disconnected. Though I could still browse the folder via Windows7's equivalent of network places.

I could browse and write to the public folders on Windows7 from Ubuntu 8.10.

You must keep in mind the Firewalls working on both computers changes may need to be made.

I also did some tinkering on Widows7 networking which may have helped, note the Host Interface Networking was set up as a work network using Workgroups, I avoided the homegroup thing as I do not yet understand it, along with many other things in Windows7.

I hope that his is of some help.

PS

Just tested, even though Windows7 shows the mapped drive as being disconnected you can still access it.
