Hi all,

I trying to setup VirtualBox at Debian 3.1, but it has many dependences.
I have SIP proxy and database. Both dependences of the libc6_2.3.2.
I installed a libc6_2.3.6, but the proxy and database did not work.
How can I solve this?

I tryng to setup cvs VirtualBox, but it has dependence. Response:
"Checking for bcc: **bcc (variable BBC) not found!"

Is there any tutorial?

Thanks

Danilo

Sorry mate, no solution, just the same problem.

The docu doesn't mention BCC, and I've never come across it
in the hundreds of source installs I've done over the past 9 years.

This is on Slackware 11, btw, not Debian.

You should use a public available Sarge mirror to solve your package dependencies. If you are not familiar with Debian package handling you may find it easier to add the following two lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list file:

Code: Select all

deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian sarge main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ sarge/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://www.virtualbox.org/debian sarge non-free
After

Code: Select all

apt-get update
you should be able to perform

Code: Select all

apt-get install virtualbox
which will automatically solve all package dependencies.

Regarding bcc (Bruce Evans's C compiler): To compile VirtualBox you need at least those packages mentioned in the configure script. Even Debian/Sarge contains bcc. If Slackware does not provide a bcc package you might grab the bcc sources from http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robert.debath/ and compile it yourself.

Thanks for the response Frank!

I think that a note in a README/INSTALL and/or the PDF would
be in order for those who don't use debian. As I said: I've been
building packages from source since 97, on SuSE, Mandrake and
Slackware machines, and have never come across this package.
I'm sure I'm not the only one?

And after a successful install of bcc (dev86 it calls itself, no wonder
I couldn't find it ... ) ./configure complains about missing IASL.

The first twenty google hits make no sense in the context of
development, I don't think... where can I find this prerequisite?

Our build instructions are actually quite clear:

http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux%20 ... structions

You will see that bcc is listed as a requirement and even the reference to dev86 as a possible package name is there.

Debian-based Linux distributions: Add one of the following lines according to ... etch non-free deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian sarge
