VERR_ACCESS_DENIED

Post by panza »

Hi,

I'm from Poland. I use VirtualBox an have a small problem. I prepare a .vmdk disk like this:
# sudo VBoxManage internalcommands createrawvmdk -filename /home/chester/dysk.vmdk -rawdisk /dev/sdb1

next I want to use this new "dysk" (just create new virtual machine on xVM) and I've got a error:

Could not open the hard disk '/home/chester/.VirtualBox/HardDisks/dysk.vmdk'.

VD: error opening image file '/home/chester/.VirtualBox/HardDisks/dysk.vmdk' (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).

Result code:

NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)

Component:

HardDisk2

Interface

IHardDisk2 {ed6e2525-c2fd-42a4-917a-7a9045ac9e15}

Called function:

IVirtualBox {339abca2-f47a-4302-87f5-7bc324e6bbde}

I think this could be helpful:

chester@xubuntu:~$ ls -l /dev/vboxdrv
crw-rw---- 1 root vboxusers 10, 60 2009-01-14 18:36 /dev/vboxdrv
chester@xubuntu:~$ cat /proc/misc

229 fuse
61 network_throughput
62 network_latency
63 cpu_dma_latency
1 psaux

chester@xubuntu:~$ ls -l .VirtualBox/HardDisks/
razem 9645396
-rw------- 1 chester chester 3731915264 2009-01-15 00:37 CentOS.vdi

-rw------- 1 chester chester 5189444096 2009-01-15 01:00 Windows-XP-SP2-Pro.vdi

When I log as root and start VirtualBox everything is ok.

Thanks for any help.
Regards.

ps. sorry for my poor English :)

It would appear that you don't have access to the partition properly. Do you have it already mounted on the Host? If so, unmount it, as it can and probably will corrupt the file system on it if you have it mounted in two places at the same time.
