Reinstalled Vbox problem

Post by relic70 »

After a reinstall of vbox in Ubuntu Hardy I get the following message:

Could not load the settings -> refers to settings in the VirtualBox.xml

FATAL ERROR: Atribute 'version' has a value, '1.3-linux' that does not match its #FIXED value, '1.2linux' -> again referring to VirtualBox.xml

I got this message after:

I reinstalled virtualbox-ose from the Ubuntu Hardy repositories after reinstalling Hardy to replace Intrepid, which had some problems.

Vbox worked perfectly fine in my previous install of Hardy and also in the brief Intrepid install.

The Linux kernel is 2.6.24.23-generic.

I also installed the virtualbox-ose module for the same linux image.

I'm not certain how to fix this problem. I've seen a couple of responses to startup errors that suggest removing the file VirtualBox.xml. Can that be done so that I can safely restart Vbox fresh and create a new xml file? If so, do I also have to do something to protect my current VDI and its xml file?

Or is there a better solution?

Thanks for any advice,

Bob

Remove the VB you have installed now and install a newere version. It seems that you either have 1.5.x, or 1.6.x, as where you used to have a newer version. In case of 1.5.x, you used 1.6.x, and if you have 1.6.x now, you used 2.x.x. Download 2.0.6 from the website. It's the last stable release. 2.1.0 has a few bugs, and unless you really need the added features, I suggest you don't use it until 2.1.2 is out.

Thanks Sasquatch

Installed 2.0.6 and it functions nicely after I set up the necessary fixes to enable USB support, as usual.
