emails from command line blocked

Hi,
I am using Ubuntu-Linux in a virtual machine on a Windows XP-Host. Everything is working fine, including shared folders.
One thing doesn't work: to send emails via command line programs like mutt, mail, nail, etc from the guest system. It seems, that my windows host is somehow blocking these emails. So I do not get an error message, but the mail is never getting to the receiver.

Email via the webbrowser (like gmail is no problem).
has anyone some experience with this issue? It is somehow important, because it is very convenient, to do backups via email-attachments.

Thanks a lot,
Stephan

Does the mail server that should send those emails give any error? How do you have your VM attached to the internet? Are you running a firewall on the Host that might block it?

Hi Sasquatch,
thanks for your answer.
1) the VM is connected through a standard way:
in the settings I find:
Network Adapter 1 PCnet-FATS III (NAT)

2) I get this error message:
3 N + Jan 15 Mail Delivery S ( 136) Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender

3) i switched the firewall off, but the secutiry center says, it is still on. and it didn't change anything :)

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Stephan
