VM doesn't start (VirtualBox kernel driver not installed)

Post by IHO »

When starting VM, I've got this error (log):

00:00:00.453 VirtualBox 2.1.0 r41146 win.x86 (Dec 17 2008 09:43:59) release log
00:00:00.453 Log opened 2009-01-14T14:29:59.593750000Z
00:00:00.453 OS Product: Windows XP Home
00:00:00.453 OS Release: 5.1.2600
00:00:00.453 OS Service Pack: 3
00:00:00.453 Package type: WINDOWS_32BITS_GENERIC
00:00:00.468 ERROR [COM]: aRC=E_FAIL (0x80004005) aIID={e3c6d4a1-a935-47ca-b16d-f9e9c496e53e} aComponent={Console} aText={VirtualBox kernel driver not installed (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED)} aWarning=false, preserve=false
00:00:00.468 Power up failed (vrc=VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED, rc=E_FAIL (0X80004005))

During VB installation all went OK, without any error.
How can I install the kernel driver or fix the problem?

Run the installer again, then choose to repair the install.

Same here - had the same error after upgrading to 2.1.2 (and rebooting PC). Uninstalled, reinstalled 2.1.2 fresh, now VM's launch just fine :)

I got the same error. I tried a "repair" but the repair process bluescreened on me :(

I uninstalled, then reinstalled, but I'm still getting the same error.

EDIT: I did another repair and this time no bluescreen. Virtual machines launch again, thank goodness, although I had to reboot once more to restore the wireless networking on my laptop.
