ctrl+alt+f1 on linux guest

Post by firstofthegreat »

I am having some trouble sending ctrl+alt+f1 or any of the f keys actually, to linux. I read elsewhere that I should try the host key + f1, but that just opens virtual box help.

host: vista x64
guest: open suse 11.0 x64_86

Did you VM actually grabbed the keyboard when you pressed that key combination? Remember, you have to hold the keys, not press them in sequence.

I did hold them, as for grabbing the keyboard, I'm sure it is as I can do alt+f1. It's probably important to note that ctrl+alt+f1 worked before installing the guest additions.

The GA in 2.1.0 breaks the keyboard layout and defaults it to US. You can install an older version of the GA (which can be found on http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/ for download). It should fix it. I believe that it's already fixed in the SVN, so the next version should have this fix.
