Using vmdk - not all data available

Hi,
I have been using Virtualbox for quite some while already and never had a problem. For work, I have had to use VMWare, but I wanted to migrate to VB now that .vmdk images are supported.
The .vmdk that I have is a growable image that consists of three .vmdk files. Problem is, when I point VB to use the main file (so without the 000001 etc numbering), XP boots OK, but I seem to have lost all my data. When converting with vmware-diskmanager, I also only get the first 7.2 GB (the exact size of the main file).
Does anyone have any clue as to how to make VM see the data in the two remaining files? I would be most grateful so as to be able to give VMWare the boot....
