No floppy & only one (of two) CDs

Hi All,

I am initially trying to setup an environment to run virtualized Win2003.

Currently have running Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop (AMD64) with Virtualbox (virtualbox-2.1_2.1.0-41146_Ubuntu_intrepid_amd64.deb) hosting Win2003. However I have hit a few problems. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1). Virtualbox only seems to allow one CD/DVD drive to be used at a time.
2). Floppy drive does not seem to be recognised.
3). SCSI controller (Adaptec 29320) is not detected, Ubuntu does not seem to support SCSI controllers.

Where do I go from here, should I try a different Linux distro, if so which one?

I have also just tried installing Proxmox but had even less success with that, couldn't work out how to see the screen of the guest OS.

1. This is on purpose, why would you need to have more than one drive anyway. It takes up an IDE slot where you could put a hard drive. Before SATA support, this was a welcome slot for some.

2. Check your Host. It's possible that it doesn't have the floppy module loaded, or it's listed in the wrong device section (like /dev/sd* instead of /dev/fd0).

3. VMs can't access Host hardware like that. It only has access to your removable media and network adapters, and even the latter needs virtualisation on top of it.
