DVD Boot Issues w/VirtualBox on Ubuntu 8.1

Post by tatemononai »

Ok, just installed VirtualBox on a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.1. First time user. I'm trying to create a virtual installation of Windows Vista. Virtual Box seems to be installed properly. I have not gotten any error messages. I have created a new virtual box but it won't boot off my Vista DVD. I mount the drive, tell it to boot off CD, and it just gives me the message "FATAL: No bootable medium found. System halted!"

So what's wrong? DVD player works just fine... I can open the DVD and see the contents. If I reboot my BIOS is able to boot from the DVD. No issues there.

Thanks

I just worked around my problem by creating an ISO of the DVD. It's working now. But I'd still like to know why I couldn't use the DVD directly...

There are some issues with the CD/DVD drive in 2.1.0. For one, passthrough disables the drive in the Guest entirely. This should be fixed in 2.1.2
