Problem with VDI Size

I'm trying to install Windows 7 Beta guest right now, on Win XP Host

If I choose "dynamic size" for my VDI and put it in my D:\ partition (where I have 40 GB free) everything works fine until about ~85 % into the installation Virtual Box stops and tells me following error

the size of the VDI file is 3,99 Gb at that moment.

If I choose "fixed size" for the VDI (like 15 GB) I cannot create it all (following error) although I have more than enough free disk space.

(I could only create a fixed VDI file smallen than 4 GB)

Does anyone have an explanation?

Explanation: you have a drive formatted as FAT32. That has a 4 GB file limit. Reformat or convert it to NTFS.

Yup, your drive is formatted as FAT32. FAT32 drives have a limit where no single file can be bigger than 4GB. Here are some instructions from Microsoft to convert your drive to NTFS: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/307881

I cannot stress enough to BACKUP EVERYTHING IMPORTANT before doing this.

Once your drive is in NTFS format, the 4GB limit will be lifted. Make a dynamic VDI with 15GB. Once you get Windows 7 installed, please remember Share Folders do not work with 7 yet
